1. Bluetooth: This is the easiest and the most well known way to connect and transfer files between a mobile phone and a PC. Just activate Bluetooth and start transferring files.
2. Cloud Storage. You can upload all your data on cloud storage services like OneDrive, Box, Copy, Google Drive, Drop Box etc. All you need to have is the application of any cloud storage installed on your mobile and PC, and create an account with the cloud provider. You can start uploading files right away and download them with another device.
3. Files can also be transferred across devices using WiFi Hotspot. This method doesn’t require a WiFi network.
- You can install an application like 3CX Remote Android Desktop, SHAREit or AirDroid on your Android device. SHAREit and 3CX have to be installed on PC too.
- For AirDroid, Log on to web.airdroid.com from your PC.
- Create or Sign in to your account.
4. Now the two devices can be connected by simply following user-friendly options or by scanning a QR code.A very effective and secure way of transferring files is by using BitTorrent Sync. It uses an encrypted peer-to-peer file sharing network over WiFi. After the application is installed on both PC and the Android device, they can be connected using navigation options or QR codes. To share any folder (individual files cannot be shared) select Add folder Navigate to the shared folder and then press Select folder. The transfer will begin.
5. Data can also be transferred on a shared WiFi network. The GO FileMaster application delivers an easy way to transfer files across devices and platforms. It uses SMB protocol (Server Message Block) over WiFi. All you have to do is select Computers (SMB) from the left sidebar in the GO FileMaster application, click Scan and select the necessary computers on the WiFi network. Authentication is done with a username and password, and that user profile can be accessed.
6. Another way to transfer files on a shared WiFi network is by Folder Sharing. This is a slightly long process and can be difficult sometimes. It requires an app, called ES File Explorer, to be installed on the Android device. Both the Android device and PC must be connected on the same WiFi network.
- Open Network and Sharing Center in Windows on the PC.
- Click on Change advanced sharing settings, on the top left.
- Scroll down till the end of the page. Under All Networks, select Enable file sharing for devices that use 40- or 56-bit encryption. Also select Turn off password protected sharing.
- Save these changes and open the location of the folder on PC that you want to share.
- Right click on the folder and go to Share with -> Specific people
- Select Everyone from the drop down menu and set the permission level to Read/Write. Now Click Share button to the bottom of the window. Your system will take a while to setup.
- Now open ES File Explorer on the Android device.
- Tap on the menu button on the top left corner. Go to Network -> LAN. Then tap on New button on the top right.
- Leave the Domain empty. Enter your IPv4 address in the Server blank. (Get IP address by typing ipconfig in the command prompt, which can be opened by entering cmd in the Run command.)
- Leave Username and Password blank (since password protection sharing was turned off) and select Anonymous.
- Enter any name (e.g. MyPhone) as Display Name.
- Now tap Scan/Search. If successful, you will see your PC with its IP address.
- Select your PC, enter Username and Password. You’re done. Start sharing the folder.
