The new Opera 64 increases speed and privacy by blocking tracking codes

The Opera web browser is released in the new 64-version. How did its creators do it? Simply: they block codes to track users across websites.

Opera 64 was released on Monday, October 7, and one of the most important innovations is blocking tracking scripts. However, the browser does not intend to block all advertising and monitoring services, but only those that are in a third-party database, namely the EasyPrivacy Tracking Protection List.

Dragging against fingerprint

The main tool for monitoring user activity is cookies, which can be not only detected, but also blocked or modified by the user. In particular, advertising system operators are looking for new ways to monitor the behavior of individuals.

One of the mechanisms that is currently popular is the so-called fingerprint. Its advantages include the ability to operate independently of cookies and the detection of a number of parameters such as screen resolution, time zone and more. The user's ability to defend against cookies is relatively limited, since the user's computer identifies itself based on a number of small available information that the website needs to render the page.

This is where the current Opera browser initiative aims to provide protection against various tracking services that use fingerprint technology. The news comes three years after developers have added ad blocking and VPN to their browsers.

With the latest privacy feature, Opera releases in the footsteps of other browsers, including Firefox and Chrome, whose authors announced plans to block "fingerprint" user tracking this year.

The protection must be switched on

By default, the tracking script blocking feature is disabled - it can have negative consequences for users that might be surprising (ignorant sites might not keep signing in, shopping carts, Google will stop showing links already visited, etc.). To enable this feature, you must do so knowingly and enable the Tracking Cookie Blocker in the quick settings panel.

You can then monitor the operation of the "protection filter" by using the small shield icon next to the address bar. Learn how many tracking cookies have been blocked, or disable this feature for the site.

In addition to a higher level of privacy, the new feature should also bring faster loading of websites. Opera says that along with ad blocking, it can be 20-23% faster. Opera 64 also delivers improved capturing of web pages that can be further edited directly in the browser.
