A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is used to hide the user’s IP address and access the internet anonymously without being tracked by anyone. This service is used to ensure absolute privacy, access blocked websites and anonymity or encrypting connection on public WiFi. When you use a VPN, your connection to a VPN server is encrypted and you are given the IP address of that server which is placed far away from your location. All your web traffic is completely encrypted and nobody, except the VPN provider, knows your real location or IP address.
Several paid and free VPN softwares are available. But unlimited VPN for free is available only with a few providers. Some VPN applications can even give faster internet speeds.
An important point to understand is that no VPN provider gives any service absolutely free. They either require you to watch advertisements, in which case your VPN expenses are paid by advertisers for promoting their product. Otherwise you get a limited data usage on VPN.
One of the most popular VPN softwares is the Spotflux Free VPN which is available on all the PC and mobile platforms, including Windows and Android. It is very user-friendly and provides unlimited and free VPN. It can slightly reduce the internet speed however, depending on your location and server. Spotflux is an ad-based service provider, so you will have to see or watch videos of advertisements. Similarly, there are other providers like SuperVPN and Private Tunnel.
The Opera web browser comes with a VPN feature which provides free and unlimited VPN service.
Some VPN softwares like TunnelBear, SurfEasy VPN and ZenMate allow excellent service but give only limited data. The VPN data usage is capped at 500 MB per month while hide.me caps it at 2 GB. You can use all the services, exhausting them one by one and use/download total data up to 3.5 GB. All the above applications are, of course, available on Windows and Android platforms.
Hotspot Shield allows 750 MB data usage per day on PC and 256 MB on Android; there is no usage limit for premium users.
Perhaps the best VPN application that offers unlimited, free and extremely secure is CyberGhost. The internet speed can also be increased remarkably by about two to eight times (that’s right, enjoy the high speed), depending on your location and server. This software gives an ad-based service, so you will have to see advertisements after every 120 minutes.
CyberGhost, however, has two minor issues. Unless you are using a paid version, you have to wait in a queue, due to increasing traffic, until slots are available. But the waiting time is not more than a minute even during peak traffic. The second limitation is that your connection is automatically severed after every three hours, by default, so that other users can be given slots. You can, of course, immediately reconnect after waiting in the queue for another minute.
These are the best available VPN softwares available for free. Of course there are several premium and paid-only softwares too.
